About

Mary is a certified Level One and Level Two instructor of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® and registered with Yoga Alliance®. She earned her certification in June 2009 from Yoga West Los Angeles, the original studio established by Yogi Bhajan in the United States. She is a student of some of the most respected teachers in that tradition, including Guru Singh, Shanti Shanti Kaur, Devsuroop Kaur, Pritpal Kaur, GuruMeher Singh, Krishna Kaur, Nirvair Singh, and Sat Siri Kaur. In 2011, she completed a 200-hour teacher certification at Shakta Yoga Teacher Training with Tanya Greve and Lauren Maher, who are experienced in such diverse styles as Hatha, Anusara, Kundalini, Yoga Therapy, Restorative and pre- and post-natal. Tanya and Lauren were Mary’s very first yoga teachers at the Burbank YMCA in 2004 and instilled in her teaching style the values of compassion and humility.

Fatehbir Kaur

Mary acquired her spiritual name, Fatehbir Kaur, in the spring of 2009 after completing Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training. Fateh means victory, one who overcomes all obstacles in her path. Bir means brave. Kaur means the Princess/Lioness of God who walks with grace and power throughout her life. Kaur is a name that Yogi Bhajan gave to all women. He taught that every woman has the potential to attain a true state of grace and power, and he encouraged each woman to manifest that potential. Budgie Bhajan

Budgie BhajanFor many years, Mary was blessed with the companionship of a beloved parakeet, who adopted her in 2008 when he flew onto her balcony and marched into her apartment. Since Mary was in the middle of her daily yoga practice when he arrived, she named him after Yogi Bhajan. Students who attended class in North Hollywood can attest to Budgie Bhajan’s sweet disposition and uncanny ability to direct sets and meditations as he channeled his namesake.
